Amazon Associates Review

Amazon’s affiliate program, also known as Amazon Associates, is an affiliate marketing program that allows users to monetize their websites, blogs or social media. Amazon affiliate users simply place links to Amazon products on their site, and when a customer makes a purchase via one of their links, the user receives a commission.

Becoming an Amazon Associate allows you to become involved in eCommerce without having to establish or maintain your own store. It also provides the opportunity to monetize a website, blog or social media and earn commissions. This without the hassle of maintaining stock, managing payment systems and shipping products. WOW!

Company

Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos Bellevue Washington in July of 1994. The company initially started as an online marketplace for books but later expanded to sell electronics, software, video games, apparel, furniture, food, toys, jewelry and far beyond.

Amazon is now the world's largest retailer. Amazon's stock has made its founder Jeff Bezos the world's richest man. Amazon currently has a market capitalization approaching $1 trillion dollars.

Associates Program

Amazon launched its associate program in July 1996 and in February of 2000, announced that it had been granted a patent on components of its affiliate program. Amazon was not the first merchant to offer an affiliate program, but its program was the first to become widely known and serve as a model.

Since then as you well know Amazon has become a GIANT in e-commerce, logistics, payments, hardware, data storage, media and more. Needless to say, Amazon now hosts the biggest affiliate program on the planet.

Categories

In all honesty it would be futile to list the plethora of categories of products in this review post. In fact, I could probably not keep up to it if I were to update this post daily.

Products

Once again, we are speaking of the biggest retailer on the planet. The products run from pennies to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our last search for the most expensive item Amazon was a 1932's 27-inch by 41-inch poster that retrieved a whopping $850,000. Suffice to say, I'm sure anyone could find some type of product to "tickle their fancy" in the Amazon abyss.

Commissions

The most notable disadvantage of the program is that Amazon offers low commission rates as compared to other affiliate programs but this can often be offset by the fact that if a visitor buys another product on the same visit you'll earn that commission as well. The latter is a huge bonus.

To earn a commission from Amazon purchases, a customer must place an order within 24 hours of arriving at Amazon.com from your affiliate link. Once that 24-hour window closes — or if the customer re-enters Amazon through another affiliate’s link, you won’t earn any fees from subsequent purchases. However, if the customer returns to Amazon via one of your affiliate links, a new 24-hour window opens, and you’ll again be eligible to earn fees based on the customer’s order.

If a customer arrives at Amazon from one of your affiliate links, adds an item to their shopping cart and leaves Amazon without completing their order, it’s still possible for you to earn a percentage of that sale. As long as the item was added to the shopper’s cart within that 24-hour window, you’ll receive the referral.

Amazon's affiliate program is free to join and you can earn as much as 10 percent in affiliate commissions. A breakdown of their commission structure is as follows:

  • 1.0% for video games and game consoles
  • 2.0% for televisions and digital download games
  • 2.5% for computers, computer components, DVD and Blu-Ray
  • 3.0% for toys
  • Amazon tablets and Kindle devices: 4.00%
  • 4.5% for paper books, healthcare, personal care, sports, kitchen, car and baby products: 4.50%
  • 5.0% for digital music and video downloads; grocery items, handmade items or musical instruments
  • 6.0% for headphones, beauty products, musical instruments, business and industrial supplies
  • 7.0% for clothes and accessories, Amazon TVs, Amazon Echo products and jewelry
  • 8.0% for furniture, lawn and garden, home improvement, pantry and pet products
  • 10.0% for Amazon fashion items and Amazon Coins

Tools

Additional unique advantages of Amazon is the list of tools available to you as an associate. From advanced reporting to the Site Stripe to capture links directly from your browser and even get earning reports from the toolbar. You can set up a product store (aStore) that you can add to just about any page(s), get yourself banners or do direct social platform linking.

API access is available after you have successfully sold 3 products.

Receiving Your Commissions

Amazon will pay you when your affiliate commissions reach $10.  You can be paid by direct bank deposit or Amazon gift card, or $100 if be paid by check. Any balance is carried over to the next month.
